Winding up the day

Adding lemons to my tea....they automatically give you "sweet tea" in these parts, and I forgot! It was drinkable after three huge wedges:)) The caverns were spectacular! Now we are having a bite at "Pit Bbque" before heading back for the bat exodus. I can't wait!! No photography/video is allowed so we"ll have to try to get a postcard of it. Mark is having a very memorable birthday! Our campground is at Brantley Lake state park. The lake was created from a dam built in the 80's. The lake covers what used to be the town of Seven Rivers, where Billy The Kid lived. It is a very arid environment here...going on a three year drought.
This didn't publish last night so might as well add to it today. We had a relaxing day reading, swimming, catching up with laundry, etc. We are heading back to caverns to watch the bats again. Thousands emerged last night, but in a steady stream rather than the "smoke like" cloud mass you hope for, so since we may not be in Carlsbad, NM again for awhile we're watching again tonight :)) Will let you know what transpires. Early July is apparently the time when babies are born so the Rangers are often uncertain as to numbers you"ll see since moms are nursing, etc. The most fascinating part is when the detector goes off that let's you know the bats are approaching. The Ranger stops speaking and demands absolute silence as you wait the 5-10 minutes for them to make their way out from the depths of the cave.
