Route 66...Las Vegas bound for the Hoover Dam....and arriving at Zion

A small portion of the very impressive Hoover Dam.
The strip on a section of historic Route 66.
Outside the cafe where we stopped for lunch
Damn it's hot at the dam! 95 at 9:00am!
Our campsite at Zion. Bridget is writing postcards. Poor kid wrote a bunch the other day and was so excited that she had written and stamped them, she put them in the mailbox without addresses!
Another view from our campsite.
Our drive today was a little hairy. It was so hot and many mountain hills to climb. The poor camper was like "the little engine that could" pulling the car! But it kept chugging along and never overheated-although we did shut off the AC on the hardest climbs. I found myself appreciating the days I was a kid in the backseat with no worries except who was on my part!! My sisters will get that :))
We can already tell we are going to love Zion. The little town leading into the park has great shops and cafes and the views all around us are gorgeous. There is a lot of vegetation in the canyon and even though it reaches 100 most days, it cools off quickly in the late afternoons and stays cooler throughout the mornings. We are headed into the village now to pick up a few provisions.
