Day Two at Yellowstone

Here we are, back at Yellowstone. Today we managed to avoid the crowds and had a much better experience!
This is dragon mouth spring and aptly named. It literally sounds like a dragon roaring when the steam and gases rise out of the ground! We also visited sulphur cauldron which is the worlds most acidic hot spring. It smells like rotten eggs for miles as you approach it.
Next we visited Canyon village and the visitor center there. We watched the film on the geology/ecology/wildlife of Yellowstone, then geared up to travel North rim rd- a one way back road with amazing views of the canyon carved by Yellowstone River. I am eating a Nature Valley granola bar- how appropriate! :))
This is a view of the falls from afar....
then a close up view...we hiked along the rim- there are areas where you can't bike so we lock them up and walk.
A glacial rock! How about it Chronchio/Hill/Broderson kids....is it as big as Doane rock or not??!!
We thought very close, but not quite :))
We had a picnic lunch then headed to Fishing Bridge which has a small bird museum and beautiful views of Yellowstone lake. It is the highest above sea level lake in the US and is over 400' deep in spots
(averages 140'). We've seen some fabulous bird life over the past few days...an American Dipper frolicking in the falls in the Tetons, a nest of baby violet green swallows, and what we're pretty sure was a Clark's Nutcracker. We have yet to share our experience at Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge. Will be able to do that in Missoula once we have Internet. :))
Bridget finally found a cowgirl hat that she loved, that fit, and was reasonably priced! Yee Haw!!
